It would be unfair not to feature my favorite burning software on WorthInstalling, so here’s a new entry in the catalog: ImgBurn.

The interface is quite simple (nearly everything happens in a single window), but it enables quick access to a lot of the program’s features through handy icon buttons.

Its drive and media support are excellent. I’ve used it with Samsung, Pioneer, LG and NEC drives and it’s worked flawlessly. I only had a problem with a DVD+RW rewritable disc which ImgBurn wanted to erase over and over again.

Nero Burning ROM is finally fully compatible with Microsoft’s upcoming Windows Vista.

Yes, that’s the big news Nero 7.5.7.0 is all about. Actually, most of the applications included in the Nero suite are now marked as “Vista Ready”. And that’s about it… oh, yes, the download links are below, enjoy!

Nero Burning ROM got updated as well last week and the new version, 7.5.1.1, is a really important upgrade: it introduces Blu-ray disc data recording.

In other related-news, NERO 7 Premium Reloaded is now available and it adds two more applications to the party: Nero Mobile (media center for smartphones and PDAs) and Nero Sipps (PC2PC/VoIP calls).

Nero Mobile runs on your mobile phone/PDA/handheld and turns it into a media center. You can listen to music, watch videos and view slideshows, all powered by the Nero Digital codec (“Nero Mobile’s collections feature lets you to create and organize custom photo, video, and audio playlists with additional customizable options like shuffling, random playback, and easy content searching.“)

Nero Mobile can also access media centers such as Nero MediaHome, via its UPnP capabilities, making sure, at the same time, that the streamed content is suitable for displaying on your mobile device. Nero Sipps is a piece of PC software similar to Skype. It runs on your computer and allows you to make free PC-to-PC telephony, chat and send instant messages. It includes a buddy list and an answering machine, too.

Video calls can be made as well and the video stream can be turned on and off without interrupting the ongoing conversation. The application can use alternate providers, to access the public fixed or mobile networks and is able to integrate with Microsoft Outlook in terms of contacts management.

The leading CD/DVD utility, Nero Burning Rom, has been updated yesterday. Version 7.2.3.2b brings forth a series of fixes for bugs which plagued the previous Nero release.

According to the official product release notes page, Nero 7.2.3.2 addresses a couple of bugs which caused the program to crash in certain situations, solves some Windows 98 compatibility issues and fixes the UNC path support in multisession CDs.

Other bugs, affecting MP3 encoding and CD ripping in Nero Digital Audio format have been resolved. Check below for full coverage of the changes in this version.

*** WHAT’S NEW IN NERO BURNING ROM 7.2.3.2b ***

- Nero Burning ROM and Nero Express crashed after the DEMO version had expired.
- Bad, scratchy sound when encoding files to mp3 using the ‘standard’ settings
- Multisession was not automatically selected when burning to the image recorder
- UNC support of Nero did not work anymore, so continuing a multi session CD with UNC paths did not work
- Nero Burning ROM did not use the selected partition to create a boot CD
- Nero Express crashed under Windows 98 when adding protected WMA files to a compilation
- Nero Burning ROM had graphical problems under Windows 98 when changing the menu options any kind of animation
- It was possible to select the ISO file system view in the folder panel of the compilation, although a UDF compilation was chosen
- Error message was shown when starting to convert Audio CDs to Nero Digital Audio

This just in: Nero 7 Premium 7.2.0.3 has just been uploaded on the company’s FTP servers. The official Nero Product release notes page mentions the new version, but there is no information on the actual changes included in this release.

(Note: A new version, 7.2.3.2b, has been released on the 23rd of June 2006.)
