7-ZIP calculates a SHA checksum for the "Side Effects" adventure pack (The Witcher)

7-ZIP calculates a SHA checksum for the "Side Effects" adventure pack (The Witcher)

7-Zip 4.65 is out, bringing an interesting new feature (the only new feature, in truth): SHA-256 checksumming via the File menu or right click context menu.

It’s pretty fast, too: on my system (Athlon 64 X2 6000+, 2GB RAM) it calculated the sum for a 287MB file in about 5 seconds.

It only works with normal files, though, not with files inside archives.
