Next on the Vista-compatible apps wave is my favorite image viewer, IrfanView - a simple, yet robust and powerful application, especially when coupled with the optional 47-plugin pack which raises the supported file formats to over 100.

Irfan Skiljan's viewer has been around for more than 10 years. Though less actively developed in the last 2 years, IrfanView has been innovative in its category (e.g.: first viewer with animated GIF support), and the latest version is no joke.

Updates in IrfanView 3.99 include:

- FTP upload for images (thumbnail mode)
- support for several new formats (via plugins)
- new sorting modes for the thumbnail mode
